Rooted and Grounded in the Love of Christ

To be rooted and grounded in the love of God, we accept the love of Christ that is shown towards us. Through accepting this love, we are able to love and serve as He commanded us to. As I mentioned in my last blog post celebrating five years of Thoughts Of Redemption, God has me focused on what it really means to be rooted and grounded in His love. One of the fascinating things about this is that in Ephesians 3:17-19, Paul writes that he prays for the church to know this great love that Christ has, that it’s the reason he bows his knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:17-19 (NKJV)

What is it about this love Christ has for us that caused Paul to pray so fervently? Why is it that this love is hard for us to comprehend? I believe that whether we struggle with acceptance, or have been surrounded by loving family and friends, that we all need to have a firm grasp on what the love of Christ is. When we do, there is a fullness that we experience with God that impacts how we love others.

I’ve been a Christian for a very long time, and I’ve experienced a lot in my faith walk growing up. What I’ve learned within the past few months however is the deeper depths of love Christ has for me, seeing all that is within me that He endeavors to change. He has shown me areas of my life where comfort has been an idol, stubbornness is a negative response I have a habit of, and fears that threaten the faith that God is cultivating in me.

All of these things God is revealing that lie inside of me also involve my ways of thinking that God is redeeming as well, which shows how much Thoughts Of Redemption is a process God continues to work out in my own life too. As long as I walk with Jesus, there are things that I will never stop learning to do in order to be Christ-like.

This fullness of God is experienced by God’s presence being felt in our lives, but is also strengthened by the faith that we know His love is a constant reality regardless of our experiences, and it is experienced through our obedience to Christ’s commands for us as His disciples. There is a dynamic of God’s love that we won’t experience unless we obey Christ’s commands and have a rooted understanding of the love He has for us.

I shot a video last weekend about what God is currently showing me, and I pray that it is a blessing to you! Click to watch it below.
