On this Black History Month, I’m really excited to share with you a podcast episode that was very enlightening and encouraging! The podcast is titled K.I.N.G. Talks podcast, which is a podcast created by the K.I.N.G. Movement, a national Christian men’s movement.

This episode is apart of a special series this month titled Our Men, Our History, featuring a conversation with Rob Jones, who is a hedge fund manager and involved in the financial sector, hosted by Tru Pettigrew.

Rob goes into detail about finance and some of the projected statistics in the next few decades for Black Americans. The stats are mind-blowing, as he mentions that Blacks are on track to approach the net worth of zero by 2053.

That stat is unfortunate, considering the economic growth that has been experienced in America since the Great Recession in 2008. I began to think about Black History Month, and it hit me that this projection is a statement on where the future of Black history is expected to go financially, which I believe can change.

One of the other things he mentioned was that after MLK’s passing, there wasn’t as much love and attention given towards those who continued the mission of after him, as he highlighted individuals like Pastor Leon Sullivan and Andrew J. Young. Andrew Young in particular played a huge part in developing Atlanta’s international airport, which spurred on the economic growth Atlanta and has gone on to produce the most Black millionaires.
